Brandon Sanderson - University Lectures

Brandon Sanderson
Brandon Sanderson is one of the biggest names in Fantasy today. He sells a lot of books, hits his deadlines, and keeps his fans happy. On top of this—nobody does magic systems better. Brandon spends a lot of his time teaching the art of writing and is one of the founding members of the Writing Excuses podcast (which is currently in it’s 14th season).
What is this video?
Brandon regularly teaches a class at BYU which focuses on the art and business of writing genre fiction. In 2016 he allowed his course to be recorded and posted to Youtube. This video, and the ones following it in the playlist, cover the entirety of Sanderson’s University-level course.
Why should I watch it?
There is a reason this is the first resource I’m posting. Brandon’s lectures cover much of what I have learned about writing over the course of six years in broad (and sometimes fine) strokes. I don’t think a better course exists for new genre writers interested in going pro. Much of the material contributed by Brandon to Writing Excuses is covered in these videos.
Some of what is covered:
Character design
Plotting
World building
The business of writing
Magic systems
Dialogue
